Hey all,

My OH is working for a small airline company, they offer services such as;
Airline Representation
Meet & Greets
Airline Management
Airline Supervision.

They have asked him to re-create a website as theirs is poor and out of date. He has shown them a rough design and they really like it and have asked him to complete it for 15th Feb, this is fine. However He has never made a website before for a company(runs a forum at the minute for toyota car lovers but this is paying for itself due to marketing), and wondered if anyone could help me.

We want to know how much would be a reasonable charge for the website? I was thinking of a one off cost of X, and also a monthly fee of X as they want him to maintain it and make sure it's up and running.

Any help or info would be great. thanks!! MK55

  • Hi,
It would depend how he was going to build it, if writing it from scratch, I would say around the £350 is reasonable depending of course how large the site and how many pages they want. He may also want to look at the branding aw well and ensure that its to a good standard, I have seen too many sites recently that have been refreshed but the logos and colour schemes are still that from 10 years ago. If using something like Wordpress or some other CMS software then costs can be reduced to about £225. Regular maintenance should be charged by the hour of a min of two hours per month at £20 p/h.

why do they think he could make a website as you state

setting up a forum is a whole lot different to designing and building a website, especially for a commercial business as you would need to think and build in things like SEO

Railbuff, thanks for your input, he gave it a shot and they have liked it so doing it for them.
  • Dont use freelance whatever you do especially if your new they are a bunch of crooks and have started running rings round people just do search on google about their reputation

thats before we go into the coders, they may code cheap but they dont code secure which will end up costing you BIG when someones stolen your customer database.

And what evidence do you have to back up this sweeping generalisation? Yes there will be some who are dodgy, but the same could be said of any business.

@OP what features will this website have? If it is anything more than just a few static HTML pages then he is going to struggle as he will need to learn PHP and working with databases.

My advice would be to use Wordpress (http://wordpress.org/).

I created a website through it in around 3 - 4 weeks, with it being a very part-time thing. The result was great, and I started ranking near the top of the SERPs for my target keyword almost immediately.

I think they meant "Freelancer" - it's an outsourcing website like Fiverr

I know what Freelancer is - it's where I get most of my business - never had a problem with it as a freelancer or an employer.
