NHS Nurse.. how can save?

Hi,
I'm a nurse in the NHS. A colleague mentioned that I can save tax on my RCN and NMC membership as well as the cost of washing my uniform and on buying shoes!!? another mentioned mag subscriptions such as the nursing times and standard?

Obviously I'd like to take full advantage of the tax breaks. HOw would I go about organising this? And does anyone know of any more areas where I can save?

many thanks.

Hi Guys, it's 6 years and all you do is phone the NMC and The RCN/unison(whichever union you are with) and they will tell you exactly what you can claim.
    Good Luck

    NMC - 020 7333 6659 /6657 /6658
    RCN - 0845 772 6100

My wife is a nurse - she got sent a letter from RCN or some other organisation which detailed how to go about claiming (I ended up doing it for as she isn't great with stuff like that).

Got about 3 years worth of tax back, not a huge amount but worth having.

Also this year the tax office sent a letter out asking you to confirm that you still subscribe and do your own laundry etc, so you will automatically carry on getting the benefits.

This paragraph did the trick for my wife's new NHS job:

"As an NHS worker I am obliged to launder the uniform which is supplied to me, as my employer does not provide the facility to do this. Please adjust my tax code to cater for the £70 launder uniform allowance (ref: EIM67240/ SE 67240). I also claim the £18 shoes and tights allowance (ref: EEIM 67200/ SE 67200). I also am also paying annual professional registration fees with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of £43 and the code should also cater for this."
