Flanelette or brushed cotton sheets

Hi all,

I want to buy some flannelette sheets. 3 questions:

1. Where is the best place to get these? Don't want to spend a fortune.
2. Is brushed cotton the same as flannelette?
3. Are brushed cotton sheets as good as flannelette sheets?

Flannelette is brushed cotton.
It is an imitation of flannel which is a soft woollen fabric, unusual these days as it is expensive.

Brushed cotton/flannelette sheets are lovely and warm.


In the 30s, 40s and 50s casual trousers for men were called 'flannels' but today that word is used for a towelling face cloth ... Sorry, I'm a word nerd

I always find they bobble after a while - does anyone know how to prevent that happening?

Dunelm mill do them, and I think Wilkinsons if you want to look on the high street. Can't comment on the quality as I've not tried them.

My understanding flannelette & brushed cotton are the same .... Brushed cotton being the new fashionable term for flannelette :rotfl:

I bought mine from littelwoods really pleased ... The wash well, good value for money & bogof

Dunelm Mill do brushed cotton sheets, lovely and thick and warm. The first ones I got were £20 each and were fab, the next one I got was only £10, warm and cosy but not quite as thick.

I bought the sainsbobs ones in the sale and they're absolutely gorgeous. Think a fitted bottom double was £7 and pillowcases £6.

buy the best quality you can afford - cheap ones will soon bobble and wear thin! I have had some of mine for more years than I care to count - I also got some of mums a few years back as she doesnt like them! really good quality and although they are on the bed most of the winter, so get laundered a lot they are still as good as new!
better than new, in fact, as high quality ones just get better!
