Incorrect Settlement Date on Credit Report

Hi everyone, this has probably been posted on here before, I have searched and cannot come up with anything, sorry in advance if I have missed it. I was just wondering what I do about an incorrect date of settlement on my mortgage account, I wouldn't be bothered for a few weeks but after checking my credit report with both Experian and Equifax it would seem that Northern Rock did not bother to report settlement of my account for 7 Years, it was paid off in full as I moved house in May 2002, Northern Rock have not bothered to close it until May 2009 (should have dropped off my credit report in 2008!!!) I have messaged Equifax about it but still awaiting a reply and knowing that Northern Rock don't bother to reply (I have had dealings with them since) I was wondering where I go next?
Thanks
Thanks

Northern Rock have to administer and instuct any amendments to info recorded with CRAs - so you will need to deal with them unfortunately.
You may wish to call them, and follow this up with a letter (recorded delviery) advising of the problem, and for a notice of correction to be added confiming when the account was settled.
Hope this helps

You need to write to the data controller/Data Protection Officer at Northern Rock.
If you do not receive a satisfactory response, you may wish to considder referring the matter to the ICO as a complaint - whose responsiblity are breaches of the recording and processing of data under the Data Protection Act, which includes the inaccurate recording of info on a data subject (i.e - you).
Here's a link to the ICO webpage - and specifically the administering of credit recording section (also have a look through the site for a headsup on their role, what they do, complaints etc...) - http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/credit.aspx
Here's a link to the ICOs records re NRock themselves ...

Hope this helps ... good luck
