The post office have stopped doing car tax specific saving stamps, you just buy "post office" savings stamps, which you then spend on anything in the post office (including car tax). Anyone can buy them.
It's a great idea to plan ahead - a couple of quid a week & your tax will be paid for (depending on how much your car tax bill is).
I bought my nephew £20 worth for his birthday as his car tax was due at the end of the month.0 -
Great - will start getting them next week then in preperation !!!

Hi
Did not know such a thing existed, so I will now start to save for car tax. THANKS!0 -
Wouldn't you be better off sticking the cash in a regular savings or other building society account - no chance of losing (stamps) and you get an extra few quid interest...0

They only sell them as £5 stamps and you have to pay for them using cash not debit card as I discovered but they are an excellent idea and can be used towards bills.Weekly Spend Challenge: £0/£30

I stick £10 a month into a savings account for my car tax - as ManAtHome says, you're earning interest on it then too. Because it's a small-ish amount, I don't find I'm tempted to draw it back out and spend it"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

I think snaggles is right, stamps are for people who can't trust themselves not to dip into it. But they are like cash in all other respects especially when it comes to losing them!
Provided you're not tempted it would be just the same effect to start a £2 pot. The best thing to do is put these sums into a savings account and get the interest. I opened a separate savings account for this very purpose and I don't get tempted, a small amount of interest but no risk of losing the money.;)0 -
yes i agree a savings account is better for this sort of thing as you get a small % intrest but some people find these easier, i would never used this method i just use savings accounts, but each to there own0
