What's the point of a mortgage broker?

Brokers know some useful stuff that might not always be initially evident or obvious (such as which lenders are willing to deal with flats over garages.)0

Well, I guess some financial advisers here have to defend their job. I think for most people, able to go basic calculations, and a bit of research, the best deals are available direct.0

Possibly but like any service the value is specific to an individual at a point in time. Decent depsoit, low or no debt, reasonable ltv, income multiplier and no complicating factors then go direct, some or all of the above not being met would suggest that's. broker may be worthwhile.
Pragmatism always beats dogmatism in my book.0 -

This thread is about mortgage advisers. Not financial advisers. You are also technically wrong in respect of independent mortgage advisers who can recommend not only broker deals but also any deal on the market (even those that wont deal with brokers directly).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
