Bankrupt 2 months ago and still reeling!

Hi there, just recently joined this site and think it is great!!!
I have a very good support network but basically nobody has any understanding or clue as to what I am feeling or being scared off....so I thought that maybe some people here could help.
I had run of the mill cc debt last year and was paying them; 2 cards and a car...no missed/late payments then in the summer everything changed. I was made redundant, sold my house for a shortfall (cheers to the halifax for wrong info) and having made my calculations on these figs I used my redundancy money so basically I had no money coming in and too much going out! The br was the most scariest thing I have ever faced; in court on my own that day I felt totally out of my depth but I did it!!
So the rebuilding process it now in progress except it doesn't seem to be "in progress"! It took ages to even get a bank account but none that had any dd or so facilities however I have now reactivated an old Barclays acc so things should get better??
I have a job so will be filling out the soa form; does anyone have any advice on what things are taken into account? I can't get a phone contract so I am doing a pay as you go option; will that count? I will have to use child care afterschool; will that count? I am sure these points are probably covered elsewhere on here but it feels "good" to talk about this and know that someone will read it and understand how scary and frightening this whole process is!!
I've not heard anything from the OR since my telephone interview. I've rang a couple of times as halifax sent a cheque for their error in quoting the wrong figs so that was nice(!!!) that it went into the OR pot whilst I had to go br buy hey onwards and upwards
they said nothing is happening and they don't need to speak to me.....I wish I knew what "nothing is happening means" and whilst I try and move forward it seems that everything is going 5 steps backwards; did anyone else feel this??

Oh oh! Be careful! Don't want to worry you because you seem to have made a good re-start. I am not an expert so check this out elsewhere before you jump, but if you are now using an old account which you did not declare in your bankruptcy proceedings, even if it only had pennies in it, I smell trouble. Your trustee is almost bound to find out sooner or later when he/she checks your new financial affairs. This may be a criminal offence and the last thing you want now is more trouble.
The first few months in bankruptcy are always difficult - but just be positive and think of the load you have unburdened yourself of.
There are legal bank accounts that you can open out there if you search. Maybe someone more qualified on this forum can advise you. Best of luck. Stay clean. You'll get there in the end.0 -
our clients never have any problems opening Barclays cash-minder accounts post bankruptcy. however what bank did you have at the time of the Bankruptcy? was it in debt? Natwest and RBS have recently informed us (CAB) that they should have kept bank accounts open if there wasnt any debt... now that would mean if you had a Natwest/RBS account that wasnt in any debt but they closed it upon bankruptcy then id say go in and speak to them and they may re-open it. Otherwise barclays usually let my clients have an account with a cashcard and direct debits xI am a full time Benefit and Money Adviser for a leading non profit charity and I LOVE my job

I am in no way in a position to offer the right advice. However, on the subject of a phone contract, I included my two existing contracts into my BR because they were costing me 96/month.
Seeing as I still had a phone, I went into Tesco's and took out one of their sim only deals. If you ask for it to be capped, at say 500 mins a month, they won't do a credit check.
for £12.50/month I got a blackberry sim only plan: 500 mins, 500 Tesco mins, 5000 texts and 1GB of data.
Not bad eh?:DAdvertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy crap we dont need!:think:0 -
Hi guys,
Thanks for your replies! I need to double check on the "old" account as it wasnt declared as I had forgot it was still even open until I went in asking if I could open an account. I shall double check with the OR though just to be sure so thanks for that "Old -man-still-learning".
Thanks Grumpy Shunter, I dont have a phone that is currently unlocked which is causing another tiny set back but I am using a friends spare and will do for the forseable future.
I am on the whole positive it just feels a long way from the "fresh start" that people who have not been through this talk about! Starting work next month will be a great help.
In regards to the SOA I will have to fill in, am I correct in thinking if there is any spare then I have to pay that for 3 years? I am not expecting any extension to my BR but if there was would the payments be for that long too or is that a minimum of 3 years?
I have a brain that is so full of information sometimes I am unable to figure out things that are so straight forward lol

Thanks rossireps; I think I am reeling as this was not even something I had thought about far less expected so it really did turn my world upside down within 2 months! Not that I think I would have felt any different if I had this hanging over me for months as like most people money has been tight and getting tighter so its always been a robbing peter to pay paul situation but once I got my head around the BR there really was no other option and I am sure I shall look back and think WOW or words to that effect :rotfl:
I feel like I have let my child down however another part of me is incredibly proud that this happened and I just got on with it so i have a strength if that makes sense
I must say thank you to all who have replied, like most things because it is the unknown i want to know....I never knew I was this impatient ha ha0 -

Hiya,
Just wanted to give up update on this the OR wasn't the slightest bit interested about this account so I was pleased that I told them and now nothing can come back and bite me on the backside relating to this so thanks for the advice
