When Does the 6-Month Limit on Rebanding a Property Apply?

Hi All,

I've recently sent an application via email to have my house rebanded as there are two houses in my street on a lower band and my house was worth less than 40K in 1991. I received a reply by mail 2 days later which said it was being looked into and could take up to two months.

The letter came with a pamphlet that states that rebanding can only be requested in the first six months of moving into a house, but I notice that many people on here have successfully had large sums awarded for overpayments that must go back several years, so people are clearly making successful claims after living in a property for much longer than six months. What exactly is the affect of the six-month rule, when does it apply, and how do I avoid this restriction?

An appeal against a CT banding can only be made within 6 months of becoming the CT payer of the dwelling, If the VOA say the band is correct and you disagree you can ask the Valuation Tribunal (independent of the VOA) to determine the matter.

Outside of the 6 months you can ask the VOA to review the band, but if they say it is correct, there is no appeal to the VT.
