They are completely different.. bhuna is tomato based and not necessarelly mild. Pasanda is cream-based, very mild and quite heavy.

But if you've never cooked indian before, maybe I wouldn't do it for a special occassion the first time ... it's not easy, and a couple of times I've ended with food that we haven't been able to eat!!

I have not read that book, but a passanda is creamy and bhuna tends to be more dry. see here

Agree with Alisha always try the recipes first just in case it is not as expected.
  • Thanks very much, the book so far has been good and the recipes are based on one person per serving so its easier to work out how much is needed if cooking for a large group.
I've bought some measuring spoons so it will be exact to the recipe.
I bought it on amazon only 83p lol I all have the takeaway secret but this one has more curries in to try.
The bhuna has called for 2 plum tomatoes per serving.
I really can't decide which one too cook lol il probably end up making both lol

I know it's not answering your question but my favourite curry book for authentic and very tasty is http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-New-Curry-Bible-Chapman/dp/184358087X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1358514795&sr=8-2

Unless it involves making a base up separately, it wont taste much different to those you buy from the supermarket.

Even with the correct ingredients one thing stops you getting that full take away taste,
    The oil.
Takeaways start by frying chips in it until it is saturated, then they move it on to the chicken, then last the onion bargies, by this time it is a potion.
Then they make your curry with it.
If this is not your cup of tea, use canolia oil instead.
    Be happy...;)
