Moving to the Leeds area - can anyone help?
Hi all,
I'm moving to Leeds for a new job in the next month or so but I don't know where to live! I'll be working in Headingley and I've heard that some areas in North Leeds are nice. Having done a bit of research they do seem to be my kind of place but also seem quite pricey. The areas that I've looked at so far are Roundhay, Cookridge, Horsforth, and Chapel Allerton. Do you guys agree that these would be nice areas to live?
I need to be within commuting distance (ideally by car) to work in Headingley but my family all live on the South Coast where I'll be commuting relatively regularly so I'm also looking at areas just south of Leeds (I also seem to be able to get more for my money down there!). I've found some properties that look nice in the Ossett area...can anyone offer an insight into whether that would be a nice place to live and whether it's a reasonable commute to Headingley? I see it's only about 14 miles between Ossett and Headingley but I wondered whether it would be OK with traffic? Are there any other South Leeds areas that people can recommend?
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered

Crossing Leeds at rush hour is a nightmare, especially from Wakefield area, not something I'd volunteer to.
Consider West Leeds. Pudsey, Calverley, Rodley. Prices may be slightly lower than north Leeds, Headingley isn't far and access to the motorway network is better.0 -
Rothwell has good access to the motorway network, traffic to leeds isnt THAT bad on a morning.0

new estate called new forest village has easy access to motorways - is near rothwell - some good prices too buying from builder and nice rental flats too0

Hi I am from Ossett its a nice place, close to the motorway and shops so quite handy. I now live in South leeds in a bit of a run down la housing estate but my house was cheaper than lots of other places and most homes hear are owned well on my street anyway lol its just got a bit of abad name as south leeds its okay in Middleton where we are there are some new estates round and about hear. Your best bet is to take a look good luck driving into headingly every dayI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0

Chapel Allerton has some of the most deprived wards in Leeds, not somewhere I'd choose in general. Agree don't cross Leeds in a car at rush hour.
Will you be travelling to the south coast by car or rail? Just thinking you might consider Leeds city centre or even Bradford city centre (Bradford is cheap), rail connection to Headingley (direct from Leeds City, change from either of Bradford's central stations), both have trains which run direct to London. Good for socialising in Leeds too.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Don't you mean Chapeltown which is next door? Chapel Allerton is adjacent to Headingley and is expensive and trendy. Moortown is cheaper to rent in and it's close enough to Headingley (about 10 minutes on the bus). It's also 20 minutes by bus into town from Moortown corner.0 -
If you fancy trying out the Bradford area, it can be ridiculously cheap but some areas have bad reputations. However Saltaire (UNESCO world heritage site) is lovely, is on the train line and is very popular with Leeds commuters. However the downside is most properties within the village itself aren't double glazed due to restrictions on updating. Further out towards Bingley, Guiseley, Ilkley and that area are generally nice areas but it depends on how far you are willing to live out of Leeds. It is around 20 minutes on the train from Saltaire into Leeds and I wouldn't recommend driving from this area - Saltaire roundabout is a horrendous bottleneck and is terrible during rush hour.0
