Hair extensions

I am really getting impatient waiting for my hair to grow and am seriously thinking about hair extensions but I have heard that they are expensive and can damage your own hair.

The clip in extensions are a no no for me as I have very fine hair and the clips would show underneath.

Has anyone had the salon glued in extensions and are they worth it?

  • Hi Sixtiesgal, I had some put in last year - took hours at the hairdressers and cost £140 (which is cheap for this). They looked brilliant for a couple of days then the nightmare began. They took so much looking after and my head was sore for a while when laying down. They knotted up very easily and after less than one month I had them taken out. Do seem to be losing a lot of hair since but maybe that is due to dieting? Hope this helps.

    DONT DO IT!!!!!!
I had them and they were awful. As the above poster says, they look great for a couple of days, then they look fake and matt your real hair up at the roots. When you have them taken out - which you will, your hair will be ruined!
Just cut your hair regularly and it wil grow quicker... or you can get something called invisible hair extensions... they are from a company in essex - not sure where you are, and they sort of have a hoop thing that you put under your hair.. notreally sure how they work but I know someone that had them and they looked fab!!! x

Glued/bonded hair extensions are really bad for your hair, you'll end up pulling your own hair out.

You do have other options that are less evasive though.

Heres a few for you to google

    easilocks
    micro ring extensions
    halo hair extentions
and weft hair which is installed via a 'weave' where your own hair is 'braided/cornrowed' and the 'weft/track' is sewn onto the track, very popular with the black community as when done properly it will protect your own hair, but depend on your hair it might not suit you.

The cheapest option there is Halo hair, looks good for those with european type straight fine hair, not so good for thicker non european hair.
  • Thanks for your replies. I am certainly not going to bother having glued extensions now. I may look at the clip in ones but I am only wanting to grow my hair a couple of inches or so just so as its all one length round the back so I may just be patient and wait for it to grow and get used to it in the meantime.

Some people will only use wooden combs, while others can’t be without their wide tooth combs. No matter what type of comb you buy, make sure that you comb your hair before brushing it. Also, you might first finger comb your hair before you even start combing it to avoid too much pulling and tugging.
