I buy soap powder of eBay after someone posted about it on here.

It is just over £20 delivered for 20kg and lasts me almost a year. They also do washing liquid and conditioner too.
I also get my dishwasher powder from them too and 1 tub lasts ages.0 -
I've been using laundry gloop and I'm very pleased with it. I couldn't find borax so I didn't use it but the clothes still come out clean.0

Not plugging this company at all as not used their products but wanted to say I emailed them and asked if there was postage on dishwasher tablets and washing powder and got an instant reply saying only payable on one item so I have ordered. If the powder and dishwasher tablets are as good as their service I will almost certainly order again.0 -
I buy a packet of tabs when on offer, use half of one each wash and they can last up to a year with 3 washes a fortnight. Just using up the last tab now, started last May and would have lasted longer if we hadn't wasted some when our machine started breaking down...If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

I don't know if they're the same company who I get mine from (based in Whitby) but I bought 10kg of powder for £8.50 back in July and I barely have got halfway through! I use a 1 tablespoon scoop each full wash and everything comes out great. It really is amazing value buying from places like that than the big brand names0 -
I've debated whether to buy this before, but seeing that Corneycobs has also given it a good review, I might try it.I buy soap powder of eBay after someone posted about it on here.

Our guide advised us to cut down the dose to about 1/4, as the 'recommended. dose was basically there to encourage you to buy more powder!
He also suggested that you dilute conditioner X 2 as the concentrated stuff was another way of getting you to use more! As no one can accurately measure such small amouts.
For a long time I have mixed my washing powder 50/50 with soda crystals. I normally do this no matter whether I am using ariel/persil or lidl/aldi one. I then only use half the dose recommended, so works out at only 1/4 the washing powder and it's very rare that I have any issues, in fact I think my whites are whiter.
I too water my fabric softner down.0 -
Wow thanks for the tips ladies. Washing powder and softener costs me a fortune with my lot. Will def be seeing if cutting it down works for us and my boys mucky rugby kit x :jNo buying toiletries in 2013:cool:0

Wow thanks so much for all the informative replies, haven't figured out how to do the quote thing yet but many thank house elf, I have cut down even further now on the powder. In fact, bought some smart price liquid detergent, 1.65 for one liter. I used just half a lid full probably about a tablespoon and again the wash was fine. My Mum always put vinegar in the wash when she ran out of powder, my neighbour does the same. She uses a splash of vinegar for the towels and sheets. We do the laundry together for a holiday let and the sheets and towels are always really clean. Such good tips. I have tried the half tablet in the dishwasher, but this doesn't work for me unfortunately the dishes are always "bitty" and the glasses a bit smeary unless I put the whole tablet in.0

Then you need to remove filters and clean them with hot soapy washing up liquid/water and scrub them out. Then get some soda crystals and put in a large scoop and run the dishwasher on its hottest setting with nothing in it at all. It should then clear all gunk/gunge and the next time you put in 1/2 tablet they will come out clean. Make sure you scrape off plates and clear pans as much as possible too. Makes a world of difference.Purleygirl wrote: »Wow thanks so much for all the informative replies, haven't figured out how to do the quote thing yet but many thank house elf, I have cut down even further now on the powder. Run muddy clothes through the machine just on rinse. Sometimes that's all that's needed, or if further washing is required then less detergent is needed.
Once I found the unused detergent still on top of the machine when I was unloading it, but the clothes all seemed fine, so sometimes no detergent at all is needed! Just the tumbling round does the trick when things just need freshening.
Washing powder is full of filler that gums up machines, liquid is kinder & more economical & can be poured onto marks directly.Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.0
