    Hi,

Considering their fee is quite a lot higher than other brokers in London and they have a swanky office on Park Lane, you would think they would offer better service.

You'll always be better off with a small local broker where local reputation really matters.

All these larger firms operate the same sausage factory model.

You need to have them cough up your survey fee. The whole point of conducting a FACTFIND is to bring out issues such as this on day one.

The firm ought to have questions on thier fact find that act as valves. Every broker ought to know that a flat over a takeaway will be at best problematic.
  • In my last post I said it was the mortgage application fee... I meant the valuation fee so sorry for the confusion if there was any.
Alexander Hall have actually now refunded me this fee and apologised now so I won't be taking it up with the FOS and posting any more angry faces.
    Don't you love social media?

Re: mortgages based on rental income. I've been told by several different people that TMW are the only people who would lend in my circumstances. As GMS says, it's to do with minimum income... I'm self employed and don't have a full year's income.

So, you're actually using a BTL product to purchase a property to live in?

    Interesting.

I believe the adviser and the estate agent are actually the same firm.
They are both owned by the same person, a certain Jon Hunt, according to this (albeit near 7-year-old) expose of Foxtons and Alexander Hall - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4826444.stm - see this bit:
According to the Sunday Times Rich List, Jon Hunt is worth £345m and also owns independent mortgage brokers Alexander Hall. I soon discovered his mortgage brokers work closely with Foxtons' agents. They openly discuss potential buyers' budgets so they can squeeze as much money out of them as possible.
Some buyers have no idea that the Foxtons agents showing them around properties already know exactly what they can afford.

Although the article is old I imagine the complaints are similar these days....
  • Hi,
I was referred to them through Foxtons estate agents.
I was trying to get a buy to let mortgage on a flat above a parade of shops which included a fried chicken shop. .

You want to start a business (BTL)

You are taking advice for the financing (mortgage) of that business from an associated party to the vendors sales agent.

    Jesus wept
  • OP, could you answer kingstreets question when back on the thread?

When you register your details with Foxtons your details are sent to AH to see what mortgage you can raise. AH and Foxtons are the same group. This is one of the worst kept secrets around and one of the most corrupt organisations in the industry. You will never get good deal from either Foxtons or AH even if you think you are.
