Please keep us posted on how you get on.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hello, I'm so sorry for your loss - glad you slept a little better after reading the replies from here. I just wanted to confirm what several people have said, that debts can't be passed on after the death of the person who had the debt.

That said, some creditors might try. About six months after the death of the mother of a friend of mine, the local borough council came back to him asking for some money - he told them (correctly) that he'd informed them of her death immediately, and that the estate had been settled, there was no money. And that was that, they had no leg to stand on. When you talk to a solicitor, it might be a good idea to get a sentence from him or her so you can deal with that kind of insensitivity from various Accounts Departments.

And also like everyone has said, that can wait, this is your brother we're talking about, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all of this. Take care of yourself.
