SilverCrest Portable Satellite Receiver

SilverCrest Portable Satellite Receiver

Has anyone any knowledge/experience/comments about the above equipment?

This seems to be a complete kit in a hard plastic box, it's due to go on sale this week in my local LIDL for £59.99.

Thanks in anticipation.

As a truck driver I bought one of these. The dish worked fine but you really need a meter (sound) to align dish for strongest signal (Ebay).
The box does NOT accept a Sky card so you are quite limited as to what UK channels you get. The box "blew" up so I got a proper Sky box running on an inverter.
For a one off payment you can buy a https://www.freesatfromsky.com card for £20 to give you the Sky free channels (look in Q&A on the site - No need to pay the £150! as you already have a dish & box)

By the way queue up early at Lidl as boxes go quickly to caravanners !

Thanks for the reply, I was originally looking for an unwanted old Sky box and dish for my brother.
He lives in a valley and gets really poor reception, its the usual story, you can't find one anywhere (not yet tried ebay) when you start looking, so thought would check out the Lidl option.
But from your reply it would seem the Sky+ freesat card would be the better option.

  • No. You can get away without a meter. It's simple!

The Silvercrest has it's own meter built in. Just select a station on the satellite you need to find. Press "Info" on the remote. Then press number 1 on the remote. Your TV will produce an audio tone ranging from low to very high in pitch. Just move the dish around until you hear a high pitched tone. The higher the tone the better the signal.

You may still get poor reception on other stations such as Zone Thriller and some others. If that happens, tune into one of those stations and repeat the above. That way you will get good reception on all channels.

    It's a doddle.
