credit reporting, is this right?

hi

can someone let me know if this is corect.

i had a credit card and defaulted on it, and the debt has been passed to a debt collector.

i have just checked my credit report and it shows the account of the credit card with a default on may 2011 and states that the account is closed, but further up there is another account (same debt for card) that is active with the debt collector, so there are two accounts for the same debt on my file, is this the way they do things or should this be queried?

Only 1 entry should show. The debt collector should only add an entry if the original creditor removes their entry first. They should agree between them which will report.

So yes, query it. You could try phoning, or write to the debt collector and copy in the original creditor to say you have noticed the duplicate entry and require that one of them is removed from your file.

thanks for the reply. not sure if i explained properly,

the cc company are not reporting on it now and havnt been since 2011. and the debt company have opened a new account for the same debt in 2011 and are still reporting on that one
so is this right or shold the debt company be reporting on the original account that was opened by the cc company?

There should only be 1 entry at all for this debt on your credit file.

It sounds like there are 2, therefore it is incorrect.

capquest have also done this with another cc i had, i will have to try and sort this out, thank a lot
