SSP1 form - problem with employer?

Hi,

I'm asking this on behalf of my cousin.

She has asked her employer, by phone, 5 times now for them to send her an SSP1 form and they have said they have sent it but it has not turned up.

I have no idea about how SSP works as thankfully I've never been in that position. Is there a form an employer must send or can you get it elsewhere? Assuming only the employer can provide it and they will not/say they have, what should her next steps be?

Do you mean an SSP1 form? If so, your friend needs to speak to HMRC, they can contact the employer for her.

Yes, just realized error and have amended OP, thanks.

Any idea which department at HMRC? There are lots of possible numbers to ring!

If you've got access to a printer, you can almost certainly download it from the HMRC website.

The SSP1 form is available here....

The problem is that it has to be filled in by the employer, if they will not do this then I think you will have to contact the Jobcentre Plus. Their number from the SSP1 is 0800 055 66 88I.
  • The number above is to make a claim to benefit.

The number for the SSP dispute team is 0845 302 1479

Looking back over this not sure if this is a case of disputed SSP or as I assumed just a problem over the issue of the form.

Does the person involved understand why SSP has not been paid and if they disagree with the decission have they queried it with the employer and requested a written reason for non-payment.
Assuming that they have agreed that SSP is not payable and it is just a question of the "lost" form not being replaced I would start with the claim number (a freephone number)and see what happens. From my experiance, admitedly from a few years back, they will send an SSP1 to the employer for them to complete and return direct to them.

When I was "running out" of SSP, my firm sent me an SSP1 and I filed it "somewhere safe". This was in September 2011 and I still haven't found it - so when I realised I needed it for my ESA claim, I contacted work and asked them to email me a copy.

They did. I printed it off. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
