Bankrupcy help

Hi all, sorry its a long one!

I am new to this so apolgies in advance if this has been discussed previously. Basically I am in an awful mess with a mortgaged property, ex partner and bankruptcy. My ex and I split up in May and moved out of the property. The property is in one big mess after my ex knocked it back to its shell to do it up. Long story short, we ran out of money so it’s in the same state. I moved home to my parents house and had to stop making mortgage payments because the ex refused to help pay and I could simply not afford to do it on my own and live at the same time. I now have to move from my parent’s house into a rented house. In the mean time, I have contacted my solicitor and decided that due to mortgage arrears etc the best option for me is bankruptcy. I have literally no furniture and have to buy things from scratch.

My questions are: am I better off buying furniture and moving into the rented house before or after I file for bankruptcy? At the moment my monthly outgoings (although quite high) are not as much as they will be when I move out and I am worried that I will not be able to afford it when the Official receiver gets hold of my account.
Any help and advice on this in general is gratefully received as I really do not know where to turn. :(
Thanks all

Hi I think we have the same ex!!!
I would advise getting sorted with a rented property first also a basic bank acc with either barclays or co op get all your direct debits going through then close your old bank acc, get as much sorted prior to br, and good luck...keep in touch x

Hi, Don't know if this helps but i just opened an account with Barclays. He said it would be fine after going BR, it wouldn't be frozen or closed. I originally rang Co op to open one with them, but they said they don't accept undischarged Bankrupts anymore and I would have to try to open one after Discharge.
  • Thank you for your help. I will certainly take your advice. I'll sort all the basic furniture this month and move in, save a bit of money and look at bankruptcy in February or March. I'll keep this updated throughout this whole process, never know my experience may help someone else in the same situation.
