Repairing Credit Score

Hi all
We went into arrears last year with our mortgage and have since made an agreement with our mortgage company to pay a monthly figure with a little of that coming off the arrears.
We could very soon be in a position to sell our house and downsize. I do know that we would have to pay the arrears off first. However my question is as we are assuming our credit score has been affected - is how long does it take to repair our credit score?
Thanks
