My waitrose card arrived 2days ago I do get waitrose deliver every few months as a treat. 2waitroses nearish me wrong side city and small but think will add to my trusted list

    Traceability of our foods
At Waitrose, our reputation rests on the traceability of the finest foods. This requires strong relationships throughout the food supply chain built on respect, trust and a mutual commitment to the highest standards. Having our own 4,000-acre farm means Waitrose practises what it preaches. Leckford Estate is all about innovative practices and new products, a holistic approach, choice and quality, and respect for the environment. But, above all, it's about delivering customers the very finest food from known sources.

so going to look at able and cole too and local farm shops

  • I am with the Fish people here, good idea and like Edwardia rightly says aim for wild it does'n't have to be expensive.
    More on?
Meat wise only one I trust is Waitrose and Riverford, other retailers like Natoora and Farmison would be trustworthy too as would be butchers who sell meat long distance in box schemes.
I am even worried about Mcdonalds, anyone know anything about them?
Minced Lamb and Lamb could be another wise decision.

  • Chinese is easy to make once you have good recipes, great ingredients, and reliable skills. I only would go to a Chinese if it was very good as in completely utterly exceptional, instead of the bland offerings we get now.
Indian is also easy to make. Good Indian restaurants that are safe are key.
I wouldn't eat meat from a poor area even if you paid me, I would then for the sake of a meal adopt an Constructive Veggie position.
    So many unanswered questions.

I agree, I learned to cook quite a few Chinese dishes and real Chinese food (not the rubbish sold in most takeaways) is sublime.

You don't need to visit China (though it helps). There are plenty of good, authentic, books.

Our local india restuarant up high street very well regarded.

But thinking will stick to veggie options.

Looked at able and cole looks good.

few years ago they had amazing £50free groceries wish I had ordered now.

be interesting to see ho the news will affect consumers buying habits.

Anyone remember c4 chicken out campaign with hugh and jaimie must have been 5years ago now and sainsburys were forever sold out of free range.

Im feeling bit follish i been too trusting and i havent ven been buying the value rangesnot to say

havent had any horse burgers at freinds bbq

unsure of provinance of beef/lamb been getting off van butcher
    shame as they lovley people.

dismissed organic as just too expensive quite surprise how little it is extra.

recently we been eating and loving vennison burgers from c0-op thse are premioum and chilled hoping they ok.

looked at vension on able and cole and quite reasonable so might eat less beef in future.

wondering what their meat boxes are like and if they offer good value?
    anyone tried?

I don't understand why we as a nation seem to think it necessary to eat meat so often. That is why we end up buying cheap meat - not because we have less money, or times are hard blah blah but because the problem is in our head!

What is worse is that it is usually our children that we are feeding these burgers full of chemicals and fillers to. Horsemeat is surely far preferable to the crap that is MEANT to be in a cheap burger, that is CLEARLY displayed on the label, and yet which seems to surprise everyone when a news story like this flags it up. Why would anyone eat that carp?

Why not buy really good meat less often? It would cost the same that way, and our health would almost certainly benefit. I just do not understand why the British are still - in this day and age when everything is clearly labelled and we are properly educated - eating this sort of rubbish. It isn't just cheap burgers and cheaper still chemical-factory shaped chicken products, but also tubs of chemicals called margarine, processed cheeses, and sugary yoghurts that are actually pasteurised after manufacture so that they are no longer live (whatever they say on the label - they are quite dead).

It just isn't necessary. It isn't necessary to feed families or children meat at every meal, or even more than occasionally. It isn't necessary to join in the race to buy as much meat and poultry as cheaply as possible. It is just a form of brainwashing that we have somehow taken on board, and that we, as well as the supermarkets are complicit in maintaining.
