I've been entering these on and off for years!
Does anybody put anything other than the required 'Name' and 'Contact Number' on the postcard when entering?

    Cheers

I use to have pre-made labels that had my postal and email address too as just my mobile means I'm unlikely to answer if I am at work, also if I won they will need my address to post the cheque to anyway.

I too would like to know if anybody has won via postcard and whether they added more details than just phone number.

The details they need are added to the computer system so after that it doesn't matter what is on the card as it has no more to do with the entry.

I don't know if the same people still handle the postal entries but this was how
We regularly capture data in any volumes from a variety of media including:... competition entries...

data capture is split across two locations, each providing connectivity and contingency for the other in the event of a major system failure....

We have the capability to process data via the traditional method of keyboard input; by scanning; through the use of automated data capture and data recognition systems

Can I ask how do you know this?

I assumed all entries are kept in a box and when the time comes someone digs their hand in to choose a postcard to win.

For someone (or a team) to sit there and enter details onto a database will take an awfully long time and costly in terms of wages too.

added that to my previous post as you posted - that was from the website of the company that handles the Derby PO box ones including ITV (all the entries are combined on one database for the winner to be selected and there is deliberately no way to tell the original method of entry so every valid entry has an equal chance)

This is how one of the magazines was done
The monthly entries are scanned initially and then the unique competition code for each entry is captured by our data capture team. This allows for competition entry results to be provided and each entry is placed in a unique competition pot to allow for computerized winner selection once each competition has closed.

(If there are multiple entry routes they have to be able to combine all the entries for winner selection)

It can vary depending on the competition, as per their T&C's
    5. Winner Contact

5.1. General contact: The winner will be contacted as soon as practicable on or after the draw date or judging date (as appropriate) as indicated in the interaction information. Reasonable efforts will be made to contact a winner on the phone number provided when entering the promotion or such other method of contact deemed appropriate by the Promoter in its sole discretion in the circumstances. Unless the prize is time critical or time sensitive, the Promoter will try to contact the winner over a 4 week period.

5.2. Time critical: Where the prize must be taken up within 1 month of the close date of the competition, the competition will be considered “time critical”. As a winner needs to be found before the time to take up the prize passes, the interaction information will indicate the date(s) when entrants must be contactable and the Promoter will try to contact the winner on the phone number (or other method of contact (if appropriate)) provided, calling three times in a three-hour daytime period or as indicated in the interaction information.

5.3. Time sensitive: Where the prize must be taken up by a date which is more than 1 month but less than 6 months after the close date of the competition, unless otherwise stated in the interaction information the Promoter will try to contact the winner on the phone number (or other method of contact (if appropriate)) they provided over a two week period or as indicated in the interaction information.

5.4. If the winner cannot be contacted or successful contact is not made within the time periods set out in clauses 5.1 to 5.3 above or as otherwise set out in the interaction information (as applicable) or if the winner fails to meet any of the eligibility requirements or is otherwise unable to comply with the interaction terms and conditions, this may result in forfeiture of the prize and the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify that entrant (without further liability to that entrant) and offer the prize to the next eligible entrant and thereafter until a winner is found.

I thought the way they do things is every entry is allocated a number and they pick a number out as the winner.

That's sort of the way it is - once the postcard entries are added to the computer system with all the others a winner is then randomly selected.

Is there a possibility to win twice with ITV? Is there a 6 month restriction period like Bauer Media..?

You would have to check the T&Cs of the individual competitions but I don't think there is a general restriction on winning twice - there certainly wasn't when they were worth entering with free web entry (the chances of winning now are so small it is unlikely a six month restriction would ever need to apply anyway)
