Business Tax Advice

in Cutting tax
I have been offered a position by an Italian company where I will represent them in the UK as a sales agent and be paid a commision. I will also be able to make direct sales to the public for which I have set up a limited company. Should I keep these two things as seperate as possible and just run the direct sales as a normal company and then just take commision payments under a self employed basis. I will of course use a accountant moving forward but wondered if this was the best scenario and what the tax and NI implications were when looking at the package they are offering. Any help at these initial stages would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
There can be tax and NI savings by trading through a limited company but these will be dependent on your level of income. One disadvantage of running a limited company and a sole trader is that you could not offset a trading loss against a trading profit between the two. (Not sure if this is likely). You will also need to consider your NI position as you will be employed ans self employed at the same time. Is there any particular reason you have set up the limited company for the sales to the public?0
