Thanks for all your responses, my confidence in the idea is dropping I have to admit. Think I am just worried I will put all the effort in to do it and no one will be interested.
I think if i could do it from home I would feel better about it but I live in a small flat so not exactly ideal!
Coxy11, I am the same in that I do not know anyone else who is in to crafting which is kind of why I wanted to start it all in the first place.0 -
partialyclouded - I think you will get interest if there isn't anything like that in your area. Is there a WI market during the week? Normally they sell hand made crafts and you can ask around if anyone is interested in joining you - or if there are already clubs you don't know about.0

No WI clubs, But we do have a handmade and vintage fair every couple of weeks. Maybe I should contact the organisers..0

I'm positive people would want to join. I would if I was in your area!
I love crafting, but none of my local friends do. My cousin who lives on the south coast, and a friend in Lincolnshire are in the same position, and I expect it's the same for a lot of crafters.
As others have said, the library, post office and local craft shop are good places to advertise. Also maybe do you get a church newsletter?Ours has details of local clubs and events and I think its cheap to advertise. Does your supermarket have a notice board? Our Morrisons does but I don't know if they charge. Do you have facebook? Our town has a parents page that has all kinds of notices on.
Good luck

I was in exactly the same position as you and started a craft club in my area in 2011. although there are some others in my area they were all during the day and so no good for any of us working crafters!
I started by putting an ad in the meet ups section of cross stitcher magazine (the mag that I read the most at the time) and I had 2 lovely ladies contact me from that. We met up and brain stormed and put some flyers into local places where we thought that crafters might see it.
We decided that we would need a room to hire because none of us had a space at home and I wanted it to be a more 'settled' location so that new people would always be able to find us. we found a little room at the back of a church hall which costs us £10 from 7-9:30pm.
Success has been up and down and we have had anything from 3 people to 23! some come once and you never hear from them again and some are now very good friends
We now charge £2 per person to cover the room fee (if we have more money it goes into a pot to buy is sweets and magazines)
I am looking at ways now to get some new members interested as it seems to have drifted off over the winter (to be expected though i think).
If anyone is in the Hull or East Yorkshire area and would like to join us drop me a message.
If it is something that you are passionate about and you have the time to organise it then I say go for it. what have you got to lose?0
