Cleaning Car Seats after dogs being in there

Have looked through threads but couldnt see anything answering this question(saying that my searching skills may not be as good as those that are pro's at this site.)
I need an old style money saving way of cleaning my car seats. I take the dogs out for walks and always put a blanket on the back and dry them off, but they have a habit of moving the blanket off the seat on the way home so the seats get a bit muddy. I have hoovered the car but the seats are still marked, and the car smells of dog (politely pointed out to me by my god daughter.)
Any advice on what is good at cleaning the seats and what gets rid of the smell.
Thanks

I dont know about cleaning them but we have a waterproof cover on our back seat and a blanket in our car, muddy in winter and hairy in summer (or muddy last summer), which has saved our backseat from ruin rather than cleaning after the problem. Something like this
