Bodum french coffee press

Help! I use this everyday and it's got very stained - how do I get it clean ?

The problem is between the glass container and the outer frame (plastic not metal ). The glass doesn't come out nor can I turn it, so no way to dislodge the coffee stains. It just looks a mess.

Anyone got any ideas please ? TYIA

I've got one of those but my glass part comes out of the plastic holder - but it does take a bit of a wiggle of the plastic handle to release the glass jug. I get very worried as the glass is so delicate looking, but it does eventually come out with some gentle persuasion.

This is the one that I've got - is yours similar?

not sure if you are saying that there are coffee stains on the outside between the glass and frame? It seems more likely that any discolouration there would be caused by the glue sticking the frame to the glass, but just in case, try soaking the whole thing in hot water in which you have dissolved some bicarbonate of soda, or if possible apply a damp paste of bicarbonate to the stain and leave for a couple of hours before rubbing and rinsing off. If soaking I'd try one heaped tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda to each pint of hot water used and leave the jug to soak until the water is cold. Hopefully any dirt remaining will be easily brushed or wiped away by then. An old tooth brush can help with getting into awkward and fiddly areas.
  • thanks both for taking the time. Unfortunately my press is not like Lilyplonk's, it's more like a plastic cage !

I'll dig out my bicarb and have a go.
