Commuting costs to London?

An annual season ticket is the same price as 40 weeklies. So for the OP's journey, 40 * 90.9 = 3636.
However, as the OP is a school teacher, working about 40 weeks a year, buying a ticket for each half term should be cheaper. 40 * 81.46 = 3258.400 -

Or if you don't have any ties at home in the week you could look at mondaytofriday.com. You could get a weekday room for roughly the cost of the fares but without the hassle of travelling.
Hi, this is a very good idea, and something a colleague had suggested (as he uses it - he works for IBM). However, as always there are drawbacks! There is indeed a coach service which goes from Stansted Airport to London Liverpool Street, it is very reasonable - PERFECT! :money:
But, as you can imagine, the Airport has nightmare parking rates and is geared towards Airport users, not commuters. My colleauge, is lucky, when he goes to work, his wife drops him off (he goes all sorts of strange times, so I couldn't get a lift). But I would not be so lucky!
My only choice would be to drive to Stansted Mountfitchet train station, get a £3.90 train to Stansted Airport ( in the opposite direction to London, which can take anywhere between 8 and 30 minutes) and then get aboard the bus. This would add considerable time to an already lengthy journey. The train is just so simple and perfect, yet so so so over priced! Aghhh!0 -
Could you not lift share with a colleague who lives in a similar area?
Do you leave school circa 3pm or do you work much later as the traffic can be a nightmare on the A13 in rush hour0 -

Hi,
Can't share lifts with colleague as he works very irregular hours and does not always take bus.
I usually do leave the school just after 3 when the A13 is just starting to get busy on the A406 turn off area.
Once I am over the bridge before the A406 turn off, I am away, left down the A406, then M11 with no congestion in sight. Leave it after around 4ish and like you say, the A13 becomes hell.0 -
Why don't you drive along the highway then turn off at cotton street and drive up the A12 to the M11 ?
Do you know the long cuts through Wapping when driving into London and the Highway is busy?0
