Taking out Student Loans they'll never repay!

Christine Armstrong went to university when she was 63 years old. Three years later, she holds a BA in English from Oxford University and is now completing a Master’s degree.

Like many undergraduates, Mrs Armstrong was granted a student loan to cover her tuition fees during her degree, as well as a maintenance grant and a bursary from Oxford.

But unlike most of her younger contemporaries, she is not required to pay her student loan back, as her pension does not exceed the threshold beyond which repayments are required.

it seems to me that this woman 'deserves' it, in some sense. she got a lot out of doing the degree, paid for by the state.

but oxbridge degrees are good quality. she'll have had to study hard.

realistically we know that some of the softer degrees at the weaker universities can be completed with an average of, what, 5 intense hours work per week, autumn through spring? is that dishing out a £9k 'loan' for?

36 hours a week lectures, not including labs or self study time on my course.

Worst drop out rate across the whole university too.
