DLA backpayment question

Hello me again! Need to pick some brains if anyone has a quick moment. I got awarded a higher DLA rate and they imposed the three months rule (had a new diagnosis), which is fine.
So they letter they sent said they awarded me the higher rate from 1st Dec, but they have only paid me backdated from 5th Dec. I called and they said they paid the higher rate from the Wednesday after award as that's their pay date, they work Wednesday to Wednesday
I'm a bit confused as I thought they would pro-rata it, but apparently I don't get anything from 1st-5th Dec, can anyone confirm if that's correct? Girl on DLA helpline didnt seem so sure, just reading from a script!
