Adding one off extra income to my tax return

in Cutting tax
I complete a tax return for rental income. I work PAYE but this year I did some work for a company that was related to my job (which is for the council, I'm a teacher and did a one off job related to making teaching resources). It was a one off payment for one piece of work and I'd forgotten all about it until I'm suddenly doing my tax return and need to work out where to put it. Can anyone help? Self employment somewhere? (I had to send them an 'invoice' when I finished my work - they sent me a blank form and I filled in my details on it) At 250 pounds I don't think it's a big deal, I just want to do it right.
Thanks very much

I would put this in box 16 - other income. From what you have said this doesn't sound like a trade and it is therefore not self-employment0

Ok, I had to watch a programme and make suggestions for teaching activities. Looking at the form it looks like casual or freelance income would describe this reasonably well.
Thank you so much.0 -
People have made the mistake of registering as self employed or even creating a limited company just for the sake of a small, one-off payment that has not had tax deducted. It is very good to see people asking questions first.
If you decide to build up this side of your work and get more assignments, registering as self employed will be necessary.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
