Lost my sense of smell

Same thing has happened to me, I had a cold a few weeks ago. It's long gone now though. Since then I can smell a newly opened can of tuna fish but that's about it. Even peppermint mouthwash tastes and smells of nothing.0

It is some comfort to know that I am not alone! Whatever the virus was that was circulating in December, it seems to have been a beast. Lots of people were ill in my area all over Christmas. Let's hope a bit of time will bring back the sense of smell.0

A former colleague of mine completely lost his sense of smell after he fell over and banged his head as a teenager. He was involved in a car accident some thirty years later where he banged his head again. His sense of smell came back.0

The only thing that worked for me was an op on my sinusis. You need an x ray to check things are ok. I now have a spray which I hate and don't think they work. I swear I could not smell a thing but mine were very bad. much improved now a year on.

I'm pleased my sense of smell has gone. It's much easier walking by Greggs and McDonalalds and not being tempted to go in.0

I had a bad cold about a month ago. I was very congested and used SINEX for 3 days. I lost my sense of smell and taste as I usually do after a cold, but I did not recover it this time. Ten days later, I could not smell anything, including soap, my shampoo, perfume, coffee. I could not taste anything either. A week ago my congestion went away and I started regaining the sense of smell, but i need to place my nose close to whatever I want to smell. I can taste some foods now (mainly fruits and coffee), but the taste is weak. If the food has a light or delicate taste, I can't feel it. I hope I will recover completely sometime, but I am quite sure there was damage to my sensory nerves in my nose. I do not know if the Sinex had anything to do with it, but I have NEVER used Sinex or anything like it as far as I can remember.0

Over seven months since the original virus and I am still lacking my sense of smell. I hate it. my surgery just says it is problematic and to hope for the best. In fact, it took me about five months to feel completely recovered from the virus. I have had a very tough year as my father died in October and life has felt very bleak.
I am trying to remain optimistic that my sense of smell will return but if it doesn't, there are much worse things. It won't kill me and it is not painful.0
