Voting Comps & the green eyed monster

last year I was lucky enough to win a holiday, the comp involved voting and we made it into the top 60 and then got judged on our entry and won. We spent ages getting people to vote and people seemed happy to do so.

But now I've found another voting comp to win £3000 towards a holiday and our "friends" are more reluctant to vote for us this time - possibly because they feel like we've already won one holiday. A couple of our friends have voted but others are putting comments on fb saying no, or are liking the post but not voting (I've been checking regularly). Last year we had 600 votes in 2 months but this time I've got 6!

I absolutely HATE voting comps but I'd rather be in with a chance of winning which is why I decided to enter - has anyone else experienced envy/jealousy from people who you thought were your friends but then don't seem so happy when you win something?

I don't think it is a case of the green eyed monster, I think it is more a case of reluctance to having to like a page for which they probably have no interest in whatsoever.

Congratulations on your previous win on a voting comp though as they are very very hard to win, especially now that people buy votes.

The sooner FB clamps down on these type of competitions along with like and share competitions the better.

    Good luck though.

It sounds as if your friends made a really big effort last time so I doubt if they are all suffering from jealousy because they managed to win you a holiday. Perhaps it's just too soon. Maybe they're thinking that if they do it again that'll just encourage you to keep entering for voting comps and asking for their help.

Did you personally thank everybody who voted for you last time? Maybe people feel unappreciated.

I'm just saying that there are lots of reasons why people don't do things. It doesn't have to be jealousy.

Are you talking about friends who are also compers? The reason I ask is that a fair few of my comper friends have entered the comp you're talking about and I won't be voting for any of them based on the fact that it wouldn't be fair to the ones I don't vote for.

Also I have found that when I have voted for someone in a voting comp, the majority tend to not be that grateful even if they win (not that I expect eternal gratitude but a simple thank you would be nice, especially if I voted daily)

I don't think I would like it if I'd helped someone win a comp, then got accused of being jealous if I chose not to do it another time. No offence to you OP, but I loathe this type of comp. If something is up for a vote or judgment, it should win or lose by nothing other than merit, not by how many people can be nagged or bought to vote.

I very very very rarely vote for people on facebook especially if I am asked to by other compers who I never speak to otherwise. On the few occasions in the past that I have been asked to vote, I will vote for the entry that I think is the best even if I don't know that person. Wouldn't matter to me whether the person had won before or not but I would rather vote for the best entrant if I'm going to bother voting at all. I do hate voting comps though...

I don't like or enter voting comps although I often vote if a request comes my way while I am actually on FB (I don't look at old messages).
However if I know someone has already won a voting comp I am much less likely to vote for the same person again.

I've had PMs on here from people that I've never heard of asking me to vote for them, no way are voting comps won by the best entrant. I would steer well clear of them.

I take on board everything that's been said, don't get me wrong I was so appreciative of the votes I got first time around and yes I did thank everybody at the time because I was absolutely gobsmacked when we won and felt that I should thank the people that helped me.

When I have read back my post it must sound like I'm being ungrateful but I just needed to vent I suppose - I understand that many people don't like to vote if they have to like something they aren't interested in. I was more upset because of the comments I got on fb where people said no i'm not voting for you - isn't one holiday enough? when they are my friends, not random people that I don't really know.

I absolutely HATE voting comps, I hate asking for votes and I hate the way that you don't really stand a chance of winning - but I really wanted to just get in the top 20 so that I stood a chance in the random draw. I have made the decision today to avoid this type of comp in the future as it's not worth all the hassle.

I get loads of requests for voting comps and I detest them! They are the easiest comps to cheat at by people buying votes etc so I've stopped voting for people completely, please or offend it doesn't really matter. Just my personal choice.
I don't think your friends are being malicious or jealous of you already winning, maybe they're voting for others or just don't want to vote.

Good luck if you do enter x

the longer you comp the more you realise that many people, good friends and family included, have different feelings and views on comping and wins. they may be ambivalent, mean-spirited, envious, dismissive, judgemental or morally on a high-horse about getting something for nothing. the old adage that the harder you work, the luckier you get means nothing. *

it doesn't surprise me in the least that people have made what you perceive as unkind or unthinking comments. it's a shame, but that's life. don't take it to heart. they have a different perspective to you.

as to the question of asking for votes, well that is another matter. first time round friends may indulge you, second time round they may feel used and abused, especially with regard to potential spam and the fact that in voting they have to give away their data.

like pretty much everyone i hate voting comps, i don't ever enter them as i think they are open to corruption from the start. also i personally wouldn't feel comfortable asking anyone, even my nearest and dearest to vote for me, they've all time-pressed and have got better things to do with their lives.

*in this day and age with data entry it is true that comps don't involve much "work" (oh for the good old days of hunting for answers, entry forms, tiebreakers..) but nonetheless any comp, no matter how dumb still requires effort on your part to bother to enter or press the roboform button and fill in the captcha..
