Heard a bit of EM speach on the radio, he was saying if Labour win the next election they will introduce compulsory registration for LLs and controls on fees charged by letting agents.
Could this be because with the amount of renters increasing, they will become an important proportion of the electorate.

The thrust of his comments were directed at rogue LL's. Given the number of people who now rent property. Not regulating the industry per se.
Also admitting that the previous administration got it wrong.......0 -

Another revenue stream?
Easy money to pay for some of the monitoring they probably should already be doing?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I saw some discussion about this on the internet earlier and was amazed just how many posters seemed to be in dispute with their landlords , some for a couple of thousands, deposits not given back etc. landlord licensing might help prospective tenants to vet etc.0 -
If I get elected I will introduce Ed Milliband licencing. Anyone wishing to show footage of Ed Milliband on tv will be required to apply for a very expensive licence. I will use the proceeds to have Ed Milliband deported. I am confident of victory.0

Fees charged by letting agents are already covered by Law :
The Housing act of 2004 stipulates very clearly that ANY and ALL monies taken before tenancy are a deposit and must be refunded in event of non letting.
The problem is nobody can make their mind up on who should be prosecuting these letting agents for the scam they run.
Where trading standards get involved, they pull the landlord up for employing the agents.
So as opposed to hot air, Mr Milliband might be far better asking why the police are not prosecuting these letting agents instead of hiding behind the "it's a civil matter" lie, when most of the law police enforce is civil law.Be happy...;)0 -
It seems miliband is happy to admit previous mistakes, except the for the biggest one of all: overspending.0
