  • Goodness you sound extremely disciplined and organised. Well done on all you have achieved so far. I got an energy monitor when I switched energy suppliers over a year ago and shoved it in the back of a cupboard. Your post has inspired me to get it out and use it as my gas and electric bill is horrendous. I live in an old draughty poorly insulated house and my heating and fire is always on and i have chandeliers with multiple light bulbs in nearly every room ! No wonder my fuel bill is so high. I think this is one area I can really cut back so that will be my new mission, although I hate to be cold

I try to be, am determined to save a little bit extra. There are a few things I need to buy around my flat, but I don't want to buy anything on credit. Am also hoping will be able to put a little bit aside to pay off my loan sooner.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

One morning thought ref electricity: It seems that lap top chargers use as much electricity when plugged into the mains regardless of whether they are connected to the laptop or not. So will be making a point of turning off at the wall!!

Well today being Wednesday was pay day. Got a few extra pounds for the overtime I did last week. Handy, but makes you realise when you see how much the tax man takes it is better to use the time for early finishes on other days. Still I now have the money aside for the credit card earlier than expected. So I can get that paid for this month. Haven't done this week's grocery shop yet. Wonder if I can keep below budget again this week?

One small spend today. Didn't fancy standing waiting for the bus for 20mins, so went into McDonalds and had some chicken nuggets to waste some of the time. Cost - £2.49.

Now am waiting for my tesco order to arrive. Be interesting to see what if any substitutions they make.

Had a minor what I term investment spend, that is a spend to gain a saving. In this particular case it was a cheap floor lamp with an energy bulb, idea is to save on cost of lighting lounge compared to lighting it with the two main bulbs. Lamp and bulb cost less than £10 together. Also got an energy bulb to replace the non energy bulb I had in my bed side lamp.

Today I popped to tesco and spent £12.60. There were a couple of things I needed which were on offer. I think I have enough washing liquid, conditioner and bleach now to last 6 months. Not expecting to have to spend anything else today. Currently looking at how to get down to Essex as cheaply as possible for a weekend to visit family. Never cheap doing that as have to find hotel as they lack space, so have to save on the travel. Seen an offer today in our local paper about £1 coach travel. So am going to check that out.

This morning I have been looking at the boots website. I have £14.58 in points. I have been working out the best way to get the most out of them. Going to try a couple of new toiletries as a result when I go in there next week armed with my list. Be interesting to see if they have the things in store that I need. Am hoping I'll be fully stocked in toiletries for at least 3 months after this week without having to spend a penny!!
I also need to work out whether it is financially more beneficial to me to take my topcashback balance via BACS or via my love to shop card. They do pay slightly more to the love to shop, but obviously I'll be limited as to where I can spend it. The cash I could spend however I wanted. Decisions decisions.

Today was a NSD as took lunch to work and had dinner out of things already had in the fridge. Had a profitable call with BG. They have credited £26 to my elec account which was on my old payg account. Makes you wonder how much people on payg are in credit on their accounts, even when the meter says they need to top up. They reckoned the gas had a debt on it - I said didn't see how that could be since it was payg so he wrote it off. Result!!

Did my tesco online shop late last night. Managed to save a few pound off the amounted budgeted. Worked out have enough fish, poultry and low fat sausages for 14 days. So should be able to have another good spend week next week.

I also managed to get myself enough toiletries from Boots using the points have built up, mainly due to my contacts, for about 3 months. So am pleased with that.

Today was pay day, so have been checking how much came in and that the transfer between accounts went ok. Transferred the money I hadn't spent last week over to a different bank account. That'll cover the next credit card bill when it comes in (always pay in full - this time it was a contents insurance- was for over £100 but am not sure whether section 75 applies to services too but since wasn't any extra to use my card, thought might as well pay using it)

Need to pay my rent later. Also need to get in touch with the tax office, I think I might be due a refund for 2009/2010. I have to double check my figures and paperwork since I have had refunds in past (some larger than expected) so need to make double sure not asked for this one before.
