First of all, have you been to see the CAB or a solicitor? It sounds like you need to get a Power of Attorney (POA) for her due to her dementia.

Second, if she has a normal bank acct, she can be registered to receive the pension in that acct by DD, and the post office should be able to do a transfer.

She doesn't have to have her pension paid into the PO account unless it's useful for her when she wants to get cash out.

She could contact DWP and have her pension paid into a bank account.

well she wanted to before obv when she was compis mentis.

It should be changed now as you say, but I really think Polly or someone in her family needs a POA for her. this will be the tip of the iceberg going forwards.
  • We did have her fill in POA years ago - so need to get it activated. My immediate problem was to get this money, safely, somewhere else and earning interest. Thanks
  • Steep learning curve for us with elderly parents. Discovered today she can use her post office pension card at ANY ATM machine - who knew??!!

We're gradually pairing down the amount in her pension account and investing it wisely by cash withdrawals but we could request a cheque if we wanted to. For safety reasons though we can now withdraw from a nearby ATM and then put it straight into her bank account. We could have it transferred directly from DWP into her current account but she likes the independence of taking it out (when we remind her to) !
