Do you have insurance with these cards? If so, fine, if not, you're screwed. I found this out a few years ago when Sainsburys refused to give me the insurance I paid for.

    Thanks,
    Luke.

hi sf, firstly don't panic, your trying to deal with this before it becomes a big issue and you came to the right place so well done.

as regards the creditors I'd maybe suggest writing to them as opposed to calling, they can say a lot of nasty things on the phone and intimidate you into paying more than you can afford.

I'd also suggest writing everything down debts along with apr's and min payments, incomings and outgoings and posting it on here, the clever dfw's can then try and help you get through while your looking for a new job.

phone them a soon as you can, tell the truth. even if you dont have insurance it is better to communicate as early and as often as you need to - they will be much more accomodating that way (in my experience) It is in their interests to help so they get their money back one day

thanks people, i will write everything down over the weekend and comeback to this thread, thanks again
  • stokefan... i echo everyone else, dont panic and stay calm (easy to say i know). Firstly write /phone your creditors and let them know whats happening, if you just stop payments they will be on the phone so fast and will bully you, if they know in advance it will give you a little breathing space, then pop up a soa (as lyn has asked for) that way we can try and help you cut back and make debt repaymnets easier and faster... and lastly... your not alone hug8ok.gif

Another thing I'd like to point out is something I wish I'd known about when I (was forced) left the place I was working for. Basically, it got to the point where Sainsburys were ringing every day and when I answered they basically just kept asking the same questions:

    1) Can you pay?
    2) How much can you pay?
    3) When can you pay?

The calls would last for around 15mins each time with me basically telling them to f*** off as I had no money coming in whatsoever.

Now...they're not allowed to do this, which is something I found out on Legal Web at work a few weeks ago. They cannot do anything which would cause:

    1) you to feel harassed or distressed.
    2) humiliation to your or your family.

    Thanks,
    Luke.

Hi and welcome ...as above please post your SOA and don't panic...everything can be sorted ...also make sure you claim any benefits you are entitled to...housing/council tax benefits etc...phone all creditors and let them know your situation ...I'm sure they'll appreciate that especially if you haven't missed payments before...we are all here for you

the other thing to do over the weekend is to register with Manpower, Pertemps etc. You may be lucky that there is some temporary work going that could start Monday (manpower used to be open on a Sat morning, but not sure if this is still the case). And then you have some money coming whilst still looking for a permanent job.

Were you sacked or made redundant? If the latter did you get any redundancy money? If the former, I think you may have a problem getting JSA for a few weeks. But still worth signing on cos then you could be eligible for other benefits.

Is there anything that you have bought on the credit cards that you can sell?

    best of luck

Sorry about you losing your job. I echo the tell early school, better than waiting for them to ring you and shows you're wanting to do the right thing. Good luck...
