Returning large item via royal mail.. take it to my local post office?

Just a quick question that is related to a previous one about HDNL not delivering my 15kg sack of dog food, long story but it basically boils down to a replacement product being sent to us and received the next day, then HDNL delivering the original to us, me trying to refuse the product due to having received a replacement, and then the HDNL guy storming off and leaving the product with me.

I've contacted the seller and they've given me a return label to return it via royal mail. The only thing is that the product is very large (around 40cm x 80cm) and quite heavy at 15kg, and the post office only has a small window to post the package through. Would taking the product to my local post office be OK? Or would I need to take it somewhere else? The seller hasn't provided me with this information.

Take it to the Post Office.
They will be able to deal with it.

    They have a door.
How do you think the people got the other side of the window? ;)

I thought they climbed through the window ;)

I just thought it wasn't really worth the effort of carrying the rather heavy item to the post office just for them to say that I needed to take it somewhere else :p

I'd be telling them to collect it - why should you put yourself out for their mistake?

Because we are not all stubborn and refuse simple requests, whilst it would be easy to do so some of us don't mind being put out a little when the company CS do their job and sort the problem quickly.

I know, it would have been easier if the delivery man had just let me refuse the delivery. This is what the seller has arranged, I could contact HDNL but I don't see why I should as I don't have any contract with them (and they'd probably just remind me of this and tell me to contact the seller if I contacted them).

I've made the seller aware of how the deliveryman behaved, and they may well have words with HDNL about it, it's in their interests really, as they have had to pay for two different couriers as well as return postage for a 15kg item.
  • Personally, I'd be telling them that you explicitly refused delivery, and by abandoning the goods with you, you will now consider them an unsolicited gift.

Worth trying - if it is dry dog food. it 'aint going to go "off", before you can get to use it.

OP surely you will use the food anyway so why go to all the hassle of sending it back?

How about calling the vendor and suggesting a compromise - instead of shipping it back to them as it's already there you'll just pay for it and keep it in the back room for when the first bag is finished? Everyone wins.
