Mackenzie Hall

I have been contacted by Mackenzie Hall about a debt I know nothing about and they have now sent me a letter saying that they are sending debt collectors to my house. I understand that you can help me resolve this. Can you? I am getting very distressed by this as do not owe the money to them

    Hi

first of all take a big deep breath and relax. It will be fine. Mackenzie Hall are not regarded with much regard on here...search for postings relating to them on this forum and you will see what I mean.

First things first, since they are talking to you in repsect of a debt you do not owe, you need to send the 'prove it ' letter as they have to supply proof that the debt is yours, the onus is on them. There should be a sticky near the top of this forum with a template you can use. Send it registered post, so you know it got there and print your name....never ever sign it.

Secondly, if they are contacting you by phone or text, you can request them to contact you in writing only. There is another template letter you can send them (recorded delivery, so you know they have it). They (and other low-life like them) would rather talk over the phone as they can be very intimidating that way and you have no proof of what was said.

Once you have done this wait for the witten replies (if you get any). If they do ring, just tell them straightaway you have requested contact in writing only and put the phone stright down on them. Do not answer any security questions, do not listen to any of their babble about stuff, do not listen to thier threats about debt collectors, baliffs and whatever else they say. Put the phone down on them immediately and wait for written responses. If you get anything from them in writing, there are plenty of people on here that can help you with next stes , depending what was sent to you.

If they do persist on phone calls after they have had the 'contact me in writing only' letter (which they will probably deny, hence needing the recorded delivery), they can be reported. But it probably won't get to that.

Remember you do have control here, as scarey as this situation seems.... it is yours to control. They are low-life and quite happily chase up anyone with a similar name to a debtor in the hope of getting anyone to pay. They have bought the debts for a fraction of what they are and employ all sorts of tactics to get anyone to pay (yes, even if its not their debt).

I'm sure others will be along with advice, but just wanted you to know you are not alone here.

Oh and they can send debt collectors round (which I reckon they are unlikely to do), but debt collectors have as much right to be on your property as I have, i.e they don't.

If you do get any, tell them to go away, shut the door and if they won't go, call the police.

If you see some of the other postings on here about debt collectors, you'll see what I mean

    Normal behaviour for MH.

They won't be sending anyone and, even if they did, they have no legal rights to do anything. Which is why it's not cost effective for them to send anyone around in relation to a debt that they probably know isn't yours.

So, if they've made a direct accusation and you don't recognise the debt, respond with a prove-it. Send recorded, keep a copy, see what comes back.

You can totally ignore them if you want...or if you are going to write a 'prove it' letter then include a schedule of charges (cost for your time, for each letter and so on). If they receive your letter and continue to write then you can invoice them - play them at their own game and equally they may end up paying you! Good luck though

I've had a few letters off MH in my time. All mouth and no trousers.

Google "how to make a paper aeroplane" and have some fun with their letters. No one will come to your house, they rely on the distress you are feeling to collect debts.

Scum of the earth, nothing more.

Agree with all the above - MH aren't known as bottom-feeders for nothing.

If they happen to phone, refuse to give any kind of information and ask them over and over again if they like doughnuts.
