Does agreeing to receive marketing help your chances?

Hello everyone!

I am new to the comping forum...as it is my New Year's ambition to win something in 2013 and I came accross this forum, being a big fan of MSE already.

I was wondering if anyone know if agreeing to accept marketing communications from the company running the competition and third parties helps your chances of winning? Can they discount your entry if you choose not to receive these?

Also, is there a way of marking which competitions you have entered so you don't forget?

Any stratergy tips would be helpful!

Not sure on the marketing bit but for remembering comps you have entered always thank the poster and tick the green tick, then you know you have entered it. Obviously only good for comps on here.

I never agree to marketing unless I have no choice. It doesn't seem to make any difference.
