Wash as normal adding a cup of soda crystals and about half a cup of normal strength floral disinfectant to your wash.

Add an extra rinse cycle afterwards with a cup of white vinegar in the next to last rinse instead of conditioner.

Peg out in the frost we are due in the next few days and they should be fine !
  • you can use vinegar and wash as normal with your detergents im sure, Hopefully somebody will along soon as to use correct method and amounts needed

:) Agree with the posts above. You might need to wash them twice, and definately get them into the fresh air, preferably for days. Sun is a natural disinfectant and frost is excellent, too.

I once bought curtains from a bootsale which had been stored clean but had acquire a fusty odour. Pegged them out dry on a washline for 2 days and it was all gone. HTH.

wash them at 40° rather than 30 too (if you usually do a low temp wash). The extra heat helps to kill off the bugs that are making the smell.

Another tip that i learned from this forum!

I find that washing in Bio powder helps but will soak some in bicarb solution if the smell is really strong!
