Getting strange calls from DLC debt recovery

Options
Been out this morning but came home to a weird phone call from DLC debt recovery saying that i must phone them immedialty on 0870 7494094 giving the reference number.

I phoned and told them i could'nt pick up there reference number so they asked for my postcode i gave this and was told there's no note of my postcode so i should just wait until i receive a phone call.

I got my wife to write down the reference number and phoned back was asked for personal details adderess and date of birth which i refused as i dont know who they are. They said they were representing 3g mobile phone. I told them i dont know why there phoning me as i've never had a 3g mobile phone and i've never spoken to them before. The woman then said you have spoken to us before dont deny it we'll just write to you instead.

I dont have a clue who this company is though from looking online it seems the work with egg for debt recovery. I've never been in debt, never had a 3g mobile phone and never received any debt recovery letters. I feel bad if i go a week without paying my rent so i'm hardly going to be in debt with other stuff.

Does anybody know who this company is and if they've had similar expierences?

They said my name but the surname sounded a bit different compared to mine. I've had the phone number also for 4 years now.

Thanks
Shamish

My first thoughts are that someone has got your identity and got a phone contract. Wait for them to write to you see what they say. When you get a letter ask them for a copy of the finance agreement and take it from there.

You are certainly right it is weird!

    Thanks.

I dont think we'll get any letters from them. We've had problems from a previous house where sombody stole my wife's identifty and ordered from a magazine which had been put through the door we had told them we'd moved and showed a copy of our tennacy agreement and that was it. But i dont understand this as we had our mail forwarded for 6 months once we left our old house and we were receiving next to no mail when it ended so we did'nt extend. Dont understand how they would have got our phone number?

    Thanks for the reply

My MIL went through something similar and we thought to be honest it was her daugher as her initials and surname are the same. But she swore that it wasn't.

The phones apparently went missing off the delivery van and yet were used it was all really weird. But the crux of it does lie with fact they have to prove you took out the credit.

Its a bit of a worry and inconvenience but hopefully nothing too serious.

    Thanks :)

It's more of a relief that they have to prove i took it out.

Would they be able to send debt collectors to my door if they found my adderess or would they have to write to discuss this first?

    Thanks very much

I believe it has to go to courts first before people can do that. Definately you need letters.

Go on the national debthelpline website they have answers to lots of questions regarding collectors and what they can and cannot do. I know you don't have debt but it only helps to arm yourself with facts what they can and can't do!
