Amazon - Late refunding

I sent a faulty Kindle back under warranty after they had sent me a replacement, during the original phone call to claim the new reader they told me I would be charged £149 on my card if I didn't return the faulty Kindle.

I arranged for the faulty unit to be collected by Amazon's courier, the less than useless Yodel which used to be the less than useless DHL Home delivery service and is still operated by self employed people delivering in cars !! anyway needless to say, they didn't come for the parcel, after 3 attempts and 3 days waiting in for them they hadn't picked it up. I rang Amazon and asked if I could send it back by Recorded Delivery which I did but of course I knew that things would go wrong, they did, I was charged £149 on my card. After ringing with a complaint and a tracking number from Royal Mail they sanctioned a refund but said it would take 2 to 3 days and it took 3.

My question is this, I have heard about being able to charge late fees in the same way as the banks do and as banks now use fast transfers, all mine are done instantly now, my refund from Amazon should have been in my account when I put the phone down but no it wasn't. Can I claim late fees on Amazon, I'm sure I've seen Martin on tv somewhere talking about this.

Thanks for any advice ... Keith

In my experience Amazon are a delight when returning items, I have no idea how long it took for them to refund the money but for me the whole returns system was a pleasure (in comparison to anyone else I've ever had to deal with.)

I'm jumping of my praise for Amazon soapbox now to make space for another "they don't pay tax" argument. Such fun!

edit: Sorry just noticed this is quite a slow forum so will start the argument with myself...

Amazon and Starbucks don't pay corporate tax - boycott them!

^idiot, no big company pays tax when they can legally avoid it!

^how dare you, you won't be so happy when their avoidance has raised your taxes!

^Ignorance! Blame the government (choose past or present govt. to preference) for leaving loopholes

Blah blah blah *smashes head into wall*

Faster payments don't mean that funds will be received and applied within an immediate timescale, just because one transaction with one set of banks gets applied within a certain time doesn't mean they all are.
