Recycling/re-purposing VHS tapes

Not sure if this thread has been done. But Ive been looking around wondering what do do with all my old VHS's, couple of 100 of them-dont want them to go into landfill.
Ive re-used all the hard plastic cases to keep craft items in, very handy, but thats it.
The tape inside is not really safe to handle so cant be used instead of string. The tapes themselves are the problem. Aside from somehow using the tapes as bricks for building something [like the buildings made of plastic bottles] I cant think what to do with them.
Anyone?
