Cheap bird seed??

I really want to feed the birds with bird seed (not bread as we have a lot of foxes and seagulls here and I don't want to encourage them into the garden). I used to have bird feeders but had to stop using them because of the price of the seed. I don't want to start feeding them and have to stop because the price is prohibitive, especially in the winter. Does anyone know of a cheap place to buy it?

If you have a home bargains near you, they sell 6 fat balls for 49p, that's the cheapest I've seen.

    Hello

I get most of my bird food from capital gardens:

there is nowhere local I can buy in bulk (nearest place approx 25 miles away) and as they deliver, the costs equate themselves out. I use the no mess seeds chapelwoods seeds which seem to do what it says on the bag!

they do have offers on every so often so I stock up then. Hope this helps.

The birds round here don't seem to like fat balls.:rotfl:

I buy bags of seed in the £/99p shop. I haven't looked this year but last year was very good value.

I buy big sacks - 20 Kg - from a local pet shop, bought one today cost me £20.99 delivered. This is for the non-growing bird seed so means I won't have wheat, sunflowers etc growing between the paving slabs, LOL. I also buy tubs of 50 fat balls for £7.50.

The sacks of seed seem to last ages. Think the last one I bought was about April last year so really economical.

  • I buy bags of seed from Wilkinsons or B&M (whoever has the best offers) plus chopped up mealworms and mix it all with melted suet to bulk it up. Break into clumps when set and put it on the ground feeder. Birdies seem to love it and it's good fuel for when the weather's really bad - gives them energy and warmth.
    Normal people worry me.

Wish I had a B&M in my area but think they're only in the North.

  • No Aldi, B&M or Home Bargains here : ( Also, not sure about fat balls as they might encourage the foxes?
I'll have a look at the online shops, thank you all
  • Home Bargains also do sunflower seeds for about 80p a bag I believe.
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice
