NRAM Mis Advice has made me in Arrears - please help

After my maternity break with NRAM - I called them in August to see when I was due to begin paying again, the lady advised there was no arrears on the account and so making payment that day would be fine and it would account for August.
I then rang up in Early Decemeber as the payment had been returned to my account (id set the standing order up wrong) so Novembers payment had not gone - the lady advised me that there were no arrears showing on the account.
so i asked her point blank do i not need to make this payment then? she said no - it will not affect my mortgage / credit file as I have a large overpayment on the account and this will balance it out.
I have since recieved letters etc and have spoken to NRAM
experian says i am a payment late.
NRAM are asking for 2 months payment (july & Dec)
Where do i stand with this as i followed the advice given?
I am in the middle of complaining but dont want this to affect my credit file
also we were going to look into borrowing back from the overpayment in Feb - will this be likely now?

We went through a situation with NRAM with regards mortgage arrears. NRAM told us to pay our mortgage last feb by bank transfer but as our unsecured part of our mortgage is in a debt management program they apportioned wrong amounts to our secured mortgage creating arrears.
We flagged this up with NRAM in August last year. It has taken until now to get the arrears removed and our complaint is now with the FOS after making two formal complaints to NRAM.0
