Just been given my P60 and the amount does not match with what i should get paid a year. I asked payroll and they said its to do with a pension but i always was told a P60 is your Gross pay before anything is taken off????

It is! Pensions don't feature on P60s at all....

The only thing I can think of is that you might take your pension as a salary sacrifice i.e. your gross reduces by your pension contributions - this is what used to happen in my old job. Try adding your pension contributions to your gross and see if that works out...

It will be because pension is taken from your gross before tax is deducted. As the p60 is for tax purposes it shows only the amount liable for taxation

Your pension is probably being deducted via salary sacrifice, which is to your benefit because it redues the NI you have to pay. Since this way of paying pensions reduces your taxable income it isn't shown on standard payslips.
