I hate veg

And the older I get the worse it gets

I eat very little veg and the ones I do eat are the high sugar ones like carrots, parsnips, peas and corn

But as my diet is carp I'm doing my best to make at least one meal a day contain veggies

Today I've made broccoli and Stilton soup which is yummy, but I think the cheese my out do the good the veg is doing :rotfl:

What I think I would like would be a veggie curry, but it would have to be one that's in a good rich tasty (spicy) sauce, and have a mix of veg that combine well. What really turns me with veg is the textures, lumps in potatoes will have me puking as will over cooked cabbage:eek:

Anyone have a fool proof recipe? It's just for me but I'm happy to eat the same meal two days on the trot if its tasty

  • Butternut squash.

Boil or steam the chunks first, then stir through shop bought curry sauce.

No point cooking completely from scratch if you aren't going to like it.

How are you with red lentils/chopped onions/mushrooms/nuggets of frozen spinach? They could easily be currified. Fry the onions and mushrooms, add sauce and other ingredients and just simmer away until done. I usually add a chunk of creamed coconut, sprinkle of frozen peas and cashews because I like curry quite sweet. Chunks of sweet potato?

I like roast Mediterranean veg (potatoes, onions, peppers) cut into chunks and drizzled with oil - cooked around the meat.

I have a recipe for a veggie curry but it is mostly 'to taste' as far as the spices go and also potato based so might not suit for your phobia about textures.

I can send it if you wish :)
  • I liked this sauce http://www.ainsley-harriott.com/products/ranges/cooking-sauces/54/south-indian-lentil-sauce-mix.

Iwouldn't recommend eating it two days running, though. Freeze it and have it a bit later!

I love mushrooms and I make pea and ham soup so I guess lentils are good to go :). Spinach I'm working on,,a few leaves at a time

Sweet potato is becoming a problem :(. I was really getting to like them in their jackets but I followed a roasted recipe and that's it - can't face them

Don't know what it is about potatoes, used to be just mash I disliked, today I spent 20 mins in the supermarket getting stressed cos I needed just one potato and had to buy a bag and was panicking cos I knew I just wouldn't eat the rest :(

Send it please. ATM I'm ok with potatoes boiled. As long as they are just right ( not hard but not falling apart)

Just wish my thing about spuds will move on to chips. Real chips I can still manage, none of those frozen preformed ones though

Okay - forget big lumpy mashy veg. The frozen spinach in a curry will soften to nothing and is just stirred through to give a green tinge but you're still getting the goodness. Kidney beans? Green beans? Celery? Courgette? Leeks? Roast/grilled tomatoes mixed with red onion and feta? Baked beans? Salads?

I had a friend who had a phobia of peas. She once refused to eat a whole roast dinner because a single pea touched her plate. I'll eat any veg and even choked down 3 Brussel sprouts at Christmas.

Lol at the sprouts. I've a kilo here in the fridge frightening me every time I open the door lol

I eat maybe two at a dinner - if they are cooked to perfection :rotfl:

No way with courgette or any of its ilk, force fed too many marrow based meals as a child, can't get it past the lips now

Tomatoes, in a sauce or soup, can't do raw or grilled. If there's a crunchy bit when most is soft, that's it, can't swallow it

Beans I do eat.. Runner beans we have grown so I know won't have strings,I like leeks, I grow them as well

I think for me it really is a texture thing.. Like the other lass who is posting, terrible experiences with food as a child - stuffed marrow served me dinner, breakfast, lunch and dinner - cold- and battered cos I could not swallow it without puking

Just now I'm near 50 and when home alone turn to pasta and tomato/ chilli based sauces for a meal. That and a slice of toast for brekkie and you can imagine the hips lol. So if I can fine more one pot veg meals I can make quick and easy and tasty I will give them a go. And I love curry :)

And to be real awkward I don't like fresh fruit either :rotfl:
  • Soften some onions, stir in some curry powder to taste, add a tin of chopped tomatoes & your veg of choice then simmer until veg is done.

I usually use frozen broccoli & cauliflower mix then add some peas, sweetcorn & carrots but you can use whatever veg you prefer fresh or frozen.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.
