Quick question about guessed end dates

At the risk of an ear bashing - I just wonder if it's possible to give a more conservative approach to guessed end dates.

I find that many of the guessed dates are already expired when I go to enter - this is normally when given a month (for example finding and posting a competition on 10/12 and guessing end date as 10/01)..

I wonder if it's possible for people to guess at maybe 2 weeks, 3 maximum, to give the compers who sort by date, a chance to enter.

I don't think a shorter end date would actually affect any, or many, people but greatly benefit those who enter by date, like myself :o

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, kind of want to get it out there :)

I'd agree Jokey & it is the approach that I currently use with the gussedenddate comps.

Talk Sport is known for short runs so it is especially needed when posting from there.
  • On twitter ones that I post if it's retweets, I just put a few days on but with following ones, I generally do a month as it sometimes takes ages to get there unless it's ipad or iphone :D

The comps that I have posted where I have guessed the end date have tended to be twitter ones, where it really is a total guess when a company might reach say 2000 followers.

It was suggested some time ago that we add the phrase guessedenddate to such competitions, so that end date compers could do a quick daily or weekly search for guessedenddate and that would bring up any such competitions.

I agree, guessedenddate works well - but so many people do not use the phrase, in fact there's far more posters that don't use it, than do :(

Twitter ones I can understand - they ordinarily go quick and are a little more complex.

Web based ones are mostly the issue tbh.

I do try & monitor the board every day & search for the ?? after dates, but it's not always possible & a lot of work. I have tried to comp as they get posted but it's just not for me:o

I wonder if it would be more user friendly if it was a shorter and easier code to remember. I very rarely comp by end date, so I'm not sure about this, but can you do a search for "?" in the title? If so, perhaps a better code would simply be the question mark, used after the date for guessed date comps. It's probably how most guessed end dates are written anyway...hang on a mo...I'll try it...

...The answer is no, seems you can't search for a question mark. Or at least I tried this and it found no results. So why am I bothering to post this now pointless post? Because perhaps we could get this changed if peeps think it would work best?

No, question marks don't come up in a search - would be ace if it did. There's just no way around it if posters don't put 'guessedenddate'.

Sometimes feel a little penalised for preference of end dating :rotfl:

Ah well, no harm in asking x

For twitter comps where a certain amount of followers are needed, I tend to guess a date for 50 new followers per day, unless they have never had a comp posted on MSE before, in which case depending on the size of the prize I will make a shorter guesstimate.
I think guessedenddate is a pain to spell, maybe a shorter abbreviation would make people more inclined to use it in their post (IGT - I guessed this, GED - guessed end date etc)
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
