Halifax not accepting my DMP

I just found out that Halifax won't accept payments on my DMP which is odd because all the other creditors seem to be OK with it. Is that usual or am I being nieve? :(

Just pay them anyway and ignore the squealing. They don't have to accept but if they accept the money off you, then take you to court, it will look pretty bad on them. They won't though so don't worry on that score.

A few of our glorious banks do this then, when they realise they can't bully you, shut the **** up and accept it (but they never tell you, they just stop writing and phoning).

Do not worry, it will be fine.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to pay them the amount worked out for the DMP and take it from there.

When we started our DMP with Step change about 17 months ago the Halifax kept saying that they had not received any confirmation from Step change, although they had sent the Halifax e mails.
It may be worth ringing the Halifax to check they have received confirmation.
Its just come to me that we had problems as well as we had spent on the card within 28 days of starting the DMP so they would not accept it until after the 28 days. Hope this makes sense.
PS They most prob will not stop interest . They reduced ours to 12% and took 12 months to pass on to DCA when interest was stopped after our complaint to FOS. Hope this helps
  • Well Halifax accepted my self managed DMP. I asked them for a reduction and paid a set amount per month, admittedly they were really bad saying one thing then another, but at one point my interest was completely frozen. I don't understand why the approach is so inconsistent, because I was also only paying about £5 per month on a 4.5K debt.

I complained about the poor service and got about £300 back via the FOS, however you may see from some other threads, I wanted slightly more, but hey it was better than nothing.
  • They wouldn't accept mine but I kept paying and it went to their in house collection agency, Blair, Oliver, Scott (BOS!) who accepted it and stopped interest, it just takes a bit of time so stick with it

I never had to deal with Halifax, but Lloyds were a nightmare for me, They didn't accept it for well over 12 months, they took the payment CCCS offered, but carried on adding interest and charges, They added on over £1200 within those 12 months just on interest and charges!

Ok they did accept the DMP in the end, but only after they did a big bit of damage too!

Hope Halifax accept it quicker for you.
  • When I first had problems paying my debts it was Halifax who advised me to contact Payplan with a view to a DMP. At the time I had never heard of Payplan - they saved my life and at the time I thought the only answer was suicide.

  • Same as Owen_Money above, Halifax rejected our DMP too last year...
CCCS said ignore it and kept paying them and after a few months of letters from them moaning and about 6 phone calls a day, they sold it on to their inhouse DCA B-O-S and all been fine with them since......
