Not sure if this the right place to post this. I've got a Canon MP280 printer / scanner, I'm don't do a great deal of printing (odd letter, statement etc.) but the cartridges don't last more than a couple of months.
I've got it on the most rubbish print quality / lowest ink usage setting but it still seems to run out very quickly. Tried original Canon cartridges and ones from Tesco but it doesnt seem to make much of a difference.
Not had a printer thats so bad on ink usage and used both Canon & HP in the past. I'm looking to replace this one with someting thats more economical but my budget isnt great.
Can anyone suggest a make / model thats under £100, does colour printing, economical on the ink use and I wont need a mortgage to replace the cartridges should they run out? If it had a built in scanner & wireless that would be great.
Thanks

Part of your problem may be that you are not using the printer enough.
If there isn't a regular flow of ink through the print heads the heads dry out and you need to run "clean cycles" which drink ink. Once you have "opened" the cartridge to start using it, the ink starts to evaporate from inside the cartridge.
I have used Canon printers for years and found them to be good on ink.
Having said that I have been using this for the last few months - absolutely brilliant !!
Suggest you read this:

At this sort of price you can print off a full colour page every day to keep the heads clean. The ink won't dry out - you've got great big bottles of it .....................0 -
Epsons are usually recommended for cheap printing.
ive got an sx235w and its a great little printer, inks are dirt cheap for compatibles from the likes of ebay. £35 on ebay.. and £10 for 3 sets of inks

One option if you only print in mono, small mono laser printer and keep your other printer for scanning.

Yes the toner is almost twice as much as the printer, but it would last a fair old time. Good thing with toner, it does not dry out like inkjet cartidges. Plus it comes with starter toner (could be about 500 - 700 page yield)
I bought a mono laser about 6 months ago, use it quite regular and still on the same toner it came withMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
I used to own an HP 3210 all-in-one and it cleaned the heads by sucking the ink in rather than squirting it out. Explains why I got 650+ pages from each cart.
If you only print occasionally then the Kodak is best avoided as the heads clog-up quickly when not used & can easily get to the point where the heads just can't be cleaned.
Laser printers are the best for occasional printing as they don't suffer from clogged heads.Never Knowingly Understood.

Used it a lot more last year when I printed all my uni work on it, but found I was replacing the cartridges every couple of weeks which became very costly. Despite doing the same amount of work, if not more, my old Canon printer would go for months before I replaced a cartridge, as did my old HP printer. Only wish I'd not got rid of them but I didnt have the space to keep them and whilst I was working I could claim back some of the ink costs for this printer.
Not had any experience of Epsom or Kodak printers. Will have a look into them. That Kodak Hero printer looks pretty good.0 -
It's epsom that used to clog if unused.
Note the printer cartridges and find out if they can be refilled very easily, then check if refilled carts work in the printer before buying a printer.0 -
