27.4.07 what small dfw/mse thing will you do/have you done today?

Options
Hello! It's Friday :j

We all know that the big changes can make an instant difference to our finances, eg cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky or the gym membership.

But once we have done all the bigger stuff it is sometimes hard to realise that we are still doing DFW stuff each and every day! They may be small things but they are so important!

So, be proud of those small steps that you are taking today and let us all know what you are doing to help you become Debt Free :D

So today I will be:

- drafting letters to reclaim DH credit card charges
- doing my insurance claim that I have been putting off
- sticking to storecupboard meal plan
- taking flask of coffee to kid's karate
- doing this weeks banking as I didn't get out to do it yesterday
- sending everyone off with packed lunches

Have a good day everyone x

    Hiya Hypno

    Today I have / will:

    * Make packed lunches for me and OH
    * Pick up lovely batch of Nationwide bank statements from Post Office then add up charges tonight for OH
    * Ask my boss why my pay rise hasn't come through on todays pay
    * Walk to doctors, then get bus to Hospital appointment rather than driving and paying £5 an hour

    xx

The main thing for me today, as I'm working in London, is thinking about the renewal of my mortgage. Do I go fixed or variable - the difference is minimal, but I'm pretty sure that rates are going up, and fixing now would probaby save a lot of money. I can still overpay, it wouldn't make any difference to the amount each month at the time, but it would later, as they still charge interest daily.

Slight hijack of the thread: do people think interest rates are set to rise?

Hi KC, I would be fairly sure that rates will rise. Personally I would go for the fixed rate, but then I would say that as ours is fixed for 10 years!

I like the stability of knowing that when rates are all over the place, my budgetting is never too far out!

    Good luck x

Hi Hypno, thanks for that. I'm going to take the paperwork with me so I can think about it properly. My only bug with fixed rates is that the last fix I had was at the top of the interest rate cycle, so I got stuck with a crazy rate of interest for about 3 years.

Little things that are going to be done: well, because I'm only out the house for one meal, not two, I'll be able to make a proper packed meal - its hard to do that when you've got lunch *and* tea to do!

    Morning chaps

My advice would be fixed rate so then you know exactly what is going out next month and for the next x months.

In true DFW style, today I:
    * am going into work for an extra shift (wish I wasn't)
    * checked online banking and have received a nice sized lump of money owed from 2nd job :j
    * am gonna shift some money around to make some over payments
    * am gonna look for a cheapie present for a friend's birthday
    * am gonna use the bus to get into work

    That's it for today!

I have brought a packed lunch into work and am planning a NSD apart from buying 3 stamps (2 of which are to post some vouchers for fellow MSErs) and some bottled water for me to drink at work. 99p for 4 x 2l bottles at Aldi!!

More homemade soup to cook today! Also, thrilled though I am by darling granddaughter, I balk at the cost of tiny dresses, so this morning have cut out pattern using fabric I've had "put by" (ie bought ages ago because I liked it and it's joined loads of other lengths unused and stored in several drawers!!!). Will work out tons cheaper - and be unique!
